CAA to investigate Grabouw plane crash
The cause of an aeroplane crash in Grabouw outside Cape Town will be investigated by the Civil Aviation Authority. Martin Kruger, a businessman, was killed when his microlite smashed into the Groenland mountains late on Sunday.
No one can explain why the experienced pilot decided to fly from Worcester to Grabouw in such bad weather conditions. Kruger was expected to take 10 minutes to reach his son’s home in Grabouw. However, nearly four hours after take-off, there was still no sign of the 48-year-old businessman and a search was launched.
Kruger’s microlite was discovered in the mountains yesterday. It is believed that he was still alive after the crash and that he managed to climb out of the plane. Friends close to the Kruger family say he must have lost his way in the overcast conditions.
